Product Description

Doi Mae Salong (DMS) Shi Er Black Pearls is a fairly uncommon black tea from North Thailand. Though North Thailand as a tea cultivation region initially became popular for its Oolong teas, growers in 2011 for the first time produced black tea on the basis of the Taiwanese No. 12 plant that already in its first year conquered the hearts of every tea lover who had a chance of trying this high-aromatic Northern Thai tea novelty.

In the nomenclature of this tea, "Doi Mae Salong" means the cutlivation region, "Shi Er" is Chinese for "Twelve" and hints at the underlying tea plant species, "Black" stands for "Black Tea," and "Pearls" for the rolled form of this variant.

The carefully handpicked tea is processed according to old traditions and is provided in a rolled form. This tea is also known as "Chaa Deng" (Red Tea) which is what black teas are called by the ethnic Chinese producers in North Thailand. This black tea shows a clear rusty brown color in the cup. The freshly infused tea's fragrance courts our olfactory senses with cocoa, nutty, and bloomy notes yet stays mild while providing substantial aromatics. The well-rounded taste is often compared to a Tie Guan Yin.

Doi Mae Salong Shi Er Black Pearls achieve the best taste result at an infusion temperature of 90-100°C. We recommend an infusion period of about 3 minutes to fully assert the wide-faceted aromatic richness of this otherwise very mild tea. It is well suited for enjoyment in the evening as well as any other time of day.
