This classic Xiaguan tea factory product is referred to as "Bao Yan Jin Cha". It was first produced in the 1950's and is made from a blend of medium coarse to very coarse grade leaves. This tea is traditionally consumed by the Naxi, Mosu and Tibetan people in Western Yunnan and Sichuan, Qinghai, Gansu and Tibet. The tea is often boiled for several minutes with Yak butter and sugar and or salt.
Despite its traditional function this tea is quite good when aged! It can be brewed in a gaiwan or yixing teapot with great success! The tea liquor is reddish-gold and there are aromatic hints of whiskey and wood in this tasty tea!
