This is a classic ultra-premium recipe from Menghai tea factory. The 2005 release has become a legend among Ripe Pu-erhs and increased in value by more than 500% in just 2 years! The recipe uses already aged high grade Ripe pu-erh maocha and brews up aromatic, rich and creamy.

8oz clay vessel
8g Tea leaf

1-1minute rinse
4.5 minute infusion
This is a smooth, well balanced liquor with light astringency and medium body. I detected a pronounced cocoa note and mild fermentation. Can pair well with chcolate desserts.

My "taster" may be a bit off since I'm recovering from a cold. I found this shu to be smooth indeed. It brews a deep dark broth with no bitterness or astringency. The smell of the brewed leaves in the gaiwan after a pour (half of the enjoyment of drinking Puerh for me) seemed to be overwhelmed by leather notes. Very strong leather notes. Again, maybe my nose is a bit off due to the cold.

First few infusions had a strong toasted vanilla aroma and flavor which was reminiscent of white chocolate. I drink a lot of shu so i can defiantly see myself buying a tong of this. Worth the higher price tag.

I've now had the chance to sample a number of sheng and shu pu-erhs and I've come to the conclusion that given the choice, I'd rather have a naturally aged sheng in most cases. However, I sometimes get a craving that only the smooth, rich shu can soothe. Many shus don't live up to that promise, but the 2007 Menghai Golden Needle & White Lotus is not one of them. It has a satisfying flavor and calming energy that is hard to find at this price point. It brews up dark with a pleasant, mild earthiness, slight mineral note and a hint of a caramel sweet aftertaste. I usually get at least 5 good infusions from it as well, with the flavor profile shifting a bit each time. A very satisfying shu pu-erh.

I originally bought this cake from Yunnan Sourcing years ago, although they no longer carry it. Jas e-tea is the only place that still has this delightful cake available. Typically, I'm not a huge fan of shu. I feel like I'd rather spend the money to buy aged sheng. This cake is the exception, however. This is premium grade shu without any of the off flavors of lesser quality grades.

I purchased my pur-erh tea for first time on the internet and I selected Jas e-Tea since the company has a wide selection of pur-erh tea. Prior to my purchase, Stephen (owner of Jas e-Tea) promptly answered my queries about his pur-erh tea and I was happy with customer service provided by Stephen. So, I ordered my first package of pur-erh tea on Saturday and it arrived on Tuesday & I was surprised by the efficiency Jas-eTea. This tea -> 2007 Menghai "Golden Needle & White Lotus Ripe" Pu-erh - 357 grams -> is so good in taste and quality and I love it a lot. Also, this pur-erh tea does not make my tummy churn or make me feel groggy. It's so refreshing and this is definitely the quality I am looking for. For your information, I started drinking pur-erh tea and noticed that pur-erh tea does lower down my cholestrol and eliminate my horrible skin rashes.
I would highly recommend Jas e-Tea for a wide selection of pur-erh teas with reasonable prices. Prior to my purchase with Jas e-tea, I spent many days hunting for a reliable pur-erh tea seller over the internet and I am so glad that I have chosen Jas e-tea.

Really good, though I’m not incredibly impressed. It is a very well balanced blend - somewhat sweet, toasty, earthy. Certainly nothing bad about it at all, though I wasn’t wowed by it. There are few I would choose over it, but there are some that I would. I’d compare it to the Hong Yun cake - light and unoffensive. Very good beeng, overall!
